OUR VISION:
"To Reflect Christ through Serving Others"

A WORD FROM OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Since 1958 children, youth, and adults have been coming to Redwood Glen each summer.  Some have stayed in platform tents, some in cabins, and some at Indian Point in tents and "hogans."

Over my years here I've heard story after story of people who accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior at Redwood Glen.  I also hear testimonies of those who rededicated their lives to Christ or felt a call into fulltime Christian ministry.

March 31st was the 80th birthday of my father-in-law, Rev. Marvin Friesen, who used to be the pastor of Church in the Foothills in San Jose.  During his Open House I heard many stories of Marv's legacy in the lives of his friends and former church members.  He truly has a living legacy of how Christ worked through him to touch lives for Christ.

His birthday has me thinking about my legacy.  What will people say about my impact in their lives and in the kingdom of God?

What about your legacy?

Those of you who have contributed to the MacArthur Makeover are helping provide a legacy to those who will stay in that cabin and have their lives changed by the love of Christ.

Some of you have given towards Redwood Glen camp scholarships which bring more children and youth to camp.  Their lives are changed through the legacy you begin with your financial gifts.

Along with the MacArthur Makeover, we are also raising funds to replace mattresses in all our cabins.  Check our website for other needs on
our wish list.  If you are interested in making a donation, contact the camp office via phone or email.

Start your legacy today!

Summer Camps
Hello Friend of Redwood Glen
WELCOME to the monthly on-line newsletter of Redwood Glen, your local Bay Area Christian Camp and Conference Center.
If you would like to subscribe and receive this monthly newsletter via email, please register your address via the link on our homepage  (www.redwoodglen.com).

Spring has sprung at camp (as have the redwood sorrell and milkmaid wildflowers).  MacArthur is near completion; registration is in full swing for summer camps and the Pastor's Sabbath weeks; and available dates for guest group rentals are filling up.  Before you know it, summer will be here!  We hope that you, your church, and your organization will make Redwood Glen part of your plans this summer.
MacArthur Makeover MacArthur Makeover
"Oh my gosh!  It has walls!"  That was the exclamation heard recently after a visit to MacArthur cabin, which has been undergoing construction for nearly 3 months.

With the insulation and sheetrock installed, the walls are being prepped and primed for paint.  A crew is scheduled to volunteer this Saturday, April 7th.  If you'd like to join this "painting party", please contact the office.

The installation of the new furnace and hot water heater is nearly finished.  Plumbing and electrical fixtures will be installed in the next weeks with new flooring scheduled for April 18th and 19th.  The remodeling of MacArthur is scheduled to be completed by late April, and according to Facilities Director Peter Dodson, we're "very close to meeting that deadline."

Though construction will round down by month's end, the work of fundraising for the MacArthur Makeover will continue.  THANK YOU to all who have given thus far!  Whether big or small, every gift makes a difference because in the world of camping, every camper and every counselor makes a difference.

Dorinda Yuu of Sunset Ministry in San Francisco shares her MacArthur moment as a camp counselor.  She writes, "It was the mid/late 70s and I was excited about my annual week at Redwood Glen. I was nervous being a first time counselor, and found out that I was assigned to the cabin the furthest up the hill - Mac Arthur!  But wait, God has a sense of humor.  He arranged it so that my luggage was lost on the way to camp too!  What an adventure that week was!"

Redwood Glen is a place of "adventure" where memories are made and legacies are left.  As we improve our facilities for the "next generation," we hope that you will partner with us as we raise $20,000 to rebuild MacArthur cabin.  If you would like to make a donation, please send your tax-deductible gift to Redwood Glen and note: "MacArthur Makeover".  If you would like to make your donation via credit card, please call the camp office at (650) 879-0320.

We are still also looking for stories of "MacArthur Moments".  If you have one you'd like to share, please email us at news@redwoodglen.com
REFLECTIONS: From the Inaugural Pastors' Conference (March 12-14)
by Mary Graves, Pastor, Trinity Presbyterian Church, San Carlos

Pastors Conference 2007The Baptist pastor in town told me about the Metamorphosis Pastors' Conference at Redwood Glen about two weeks beforehand and then emailed me the information.  She said she was going, knew the speaker, raved about the beauty of the conference center and said she hoped I would consider going.

A three-day conference on two weeks notice squeezed into a Senior Pastor's busy schedule in Lent?  I was doubtful.  But I looked at the schedule, theirs and mine -- and God let me know that this would feed me, not drain me.  I'm still surprised that I went, and more grateful than I can say.

I didn't mind being the lone Presbyterian in the midst of about 20 American Baptist pastors.  We were all partners in ministry in Christ and the fellowship was very sweet.  Actually, it was nice to be around church leaders outside my denomination.  There was laughter and honesty and a prayer circle at the end where each person could step into the middle to receive prayer ("How often do you get to have others pray for you?")  The pacing of the Monday morning through Wednesday morning time allowed for rest and renewal as well as rich content from the speaker, Jim Herrington.  I was amazed at how perfect his talks were for me and my church.  (I also picked up some tips on how to change guitar strings!)

I hope I see these brothers and sisters in Christ again, and seeing them right there at Redwood Glen would be the best.  It was the perfect getaway in the perfect place at the perfect time.

Summer camps Summer Camp Registration has begun!
Reflections is the theme of our 2007 Summer Camps at Redwood Glen.  Registration is now available on-line at www.redwoodglen.com/summer/index.htm.

"My daughter has attended summer camp here since she was of age.  Her love for God and all she has learned, her stories, new friends -- these are memories I want my daughter to have," says mom and Redwood Glen cook, Christina Donnelly, who is featured in our staff highlight below.

Next month we begin highlighting our summer camps.  If you have a testimony you'd like to share about your experience from summer 2006, please let us know.
ChristinaStaff highlight: CHRISTINA DONNELLY
The staff at Redwood Glen is a caring community of Christ's servants, and Christina Donnelly is an integral part of this extended family of faith.  WIth a warm smile and joyful laugh, Christina has been a ray of sunshine at camp since 1999.

As a member of our Food Service team, Christina uses her gifts to feed the spirits and tummies of staff and guests alike.  Though she is known for her delicious honey bread and enjoys "cooking almost anything", she says that Mexican food is her favorite food to cook.  And she admits, "I love making tostadas with all the fixings for staff."

When it comes to the staff, Christina's co-workers lovingly regard her as "the energizer bunny", "a team player," "bubbly," "lively," "just terrific," a "nut," and "there's not another like her!"  For Mike Orlicky on maintenance staff, however, "tums" is what comes to mind when he thinks of Christina as he confesses that he insistently teases her about her cooking.  While Christina takes the ribbing, she can also dish it out.  Eavesdrop into the kitchen when she is cooking, and you'll hear "a lot of lovin'" with music,  laughter, and good humor, in both Spanish and English.

But it's not all fun and games for Christina.  She keeps a tight cooking schedule, maintains a well-run kitchen, and works hard to provide quality food service for all the groups she serves.  She admits that the most challenging part of cooking meals 5 days a week is "just putting out good food."

When not working or caring for members of the camp staff, Christina is a full-time wife and mother.  Christina has been married for nearly 8 years to Carl, Redwood Glen's Food Service Director.  They make their home at Redwood Glen with daughter Ariella (9) and Isaac (3).  While she loves "spending time with my babies", Christina also loves music, dancing, and reading.

Originally from Los Angeles, Christina knows that God has called her to Redwood Glen and that she has a home and family here with the staff.  Though the days can get long and the hours can be many (and early with the breakfast shift), Christina is thankful to be part of this community.  She says, "Just knowing that I am a part of a place where people can come and seek the Lord is rewarding."
