WELCOME

OUR VISION:
"To
Reflect Christ through Serving Others"
A WORD FROM OUR
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
During
two church visits last month, I found
myself in awe of how God works through Christian camps. As I
heard testimony of
how four young people made decisions for Christ and were baptized, I
rejoiced with the people in those
congregations.
I
personally have been blessed by Christian camping in my life as I
received my call into full time Christian ministry in 1989 as a
volunteer counselor for Senior High Camp after the campfire.
Over the past 25 years I
have seen countless
lives changed at summer camp. When
children, youth, and adults are away from life's distractions and are
focused
on Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit speaks truth into lives, and lives
are changed forever.
At the dedication of
MacArthur Cabin we rejoiced
at how God is providing funding for this needed, but unscheduled major
repair. We are getting closer and closer
to our financial goals as we wait upon the Lord to "give us this day
our daily
bread."
Without our individual and
church financial
partnerships, Redwood Glen would be unable to make improvements and
necessary remodels.
Currently we are
still in need of funding for both the MacArthur Makeover and new cabin
mattresses. As Marshall mentions in his article, if
97 of
you would each sponsor a mattress at $90 we would meet our May 11
deadline for
our final payment. Join us!
I look forward to more
church visits in coming
months and hearing more testimonies of how God has transformed lives
through
Christian camps.

MacArthur
Made!

On Monday, April 30th, MacArthur cabin was officially dedicated and
re-opened for use.
Thanks to all
who gave to the new MacArthur cabin through gifts of time and money!
Though the remodeling is complete, bills still need to be paid.
If you have not yet made a contribution, donations are still being
received. Contact
the office for more details on how you, your church, or
organization can give. A special note of thanks to our awesome Redwood Glen maintenance crew, who
went above and beyond the call of duty to make the MacArthur Makeover a
reality. THANKS!
You're the best.

Each
summer, Redwood Glen provides camping
opportunities for children and youth of all ages with a variety of
interests. With Me & Mom/Dad Camp,
K-2nd graders are given a sneak peek at what a day at Discovery Camp
(grades 2nd-5th) and Junior High
Camp (grades
6th-8th) is like. With lessons,
crafts, games, hiking, swimming, and worship, new friends are made and
new faith is born.
For those
who want to be outdoors, Adventure Camp
(grades 4th-6th) and the NEW
Backpacking
Adventure Camp (grades
6th-9th) allow young people to live and learn among the redwoods while
developing basic skills in camping. For those with interests in
the performing arts, Children's Music And
Drama Camp (CMAD) and Youth Music And Drama Camp (YMAD) offer
campers the opportunity to perform a
Christian musical drama, along with building friendship and deepening
their faith.
Each of our
Redwood Glen camps is led by a
dedicated and enthusiastic staff. Larry Jay (pictured above left), who is
launching the NEW Backpacking Adventure Camp, is looking forward to
using creation to introduce campers to the Creator. "Backpacking
is simply the excuse we use to get kids outdoors and to teach them
about faith," he says.
Danny
Balderas
(pictured
above middle) is in his
second year directing Jr. High Camp. With the camp
theme, "Fads Fade, God Stays", he is
looking forward to "seeing kids released." He hopes that by the
end of the week campers will know that, "All the
stuff that they bring to camp - none of it is lasting because Christ
gives
freedom."
This
summer, CMAD is celebrating its 20th
year,with Jeanette
Calixto (pictured above
right) serving her 5th year as director. While
she loves watching the kids experience new things like singing a solo,
learning puppetry, or stomping through a creek, she
especially enjoys watching the CMAD counselors, many of whom are high
schoolers, step up in their involvement and grow in their leadership.
As the
summer approaches, camp
directors like Danny and Jeanette are still looking for counselors of
all ages who
love God, and have a desire to share that love with children and youth.
If you are interested in serving as a
counselor, contact our Summer Camp Program Director, Sara Clark (program@redwoodglen.com). And make sure you check out our website and
register your child for a Redwood Glen summer camp!

Staff
Spotlight: SARA CLARK
"A summer home away from home" is how Sara
Clark describes Redwood Glen as she prepares for her second year
as Summer Camp Program Director.
For Sara, Redwood Glen summer camps have been a formative part of her
life since the 2nd grade. In 4th grade, she accepted Christ as Lord and
Savior around the main campfire, and while a junior in high
school she received her call to ministry at the ampitheater. With
such a history, Sara knows the spiritual potential of a week at camp.
"I would love to give every camper," she says, "an amazing camping
experience this summer and to help every director work toward the goal
of introducing Christ into lives and giving them tips for living a
godly life. It's all about building the Kingdom!"
Along with the directors who are leading Redwood Glen's seven camps,
Sara is excited about the ministry opportunities this summer.
According to Sara, the volunteer staff are "amazing, God-fearing
people, who show and have the joy of Christ in their lives. They
are great, and I get to love them and be part of their lives for what
seems like only a blink. That is why I'm looking forward to yet
another wonderful summer."
Before the summer begins, however, Sara will need to complete her
studies at Fresno Pacific University where she will be graduating with
a bachelors in Biblical and Religious Studies. A member of
Community Baptist Church in Waterford, she plans to serve in children's
ministry in the fall, and to eventually begin her studies in seminary.
A life-long learner, Sara also loves to cook, eat yummy food, watch
movies, read, organize ("color code things"), and (believe it or not)
to "play in the rain!" Though we don't expect rain this summer at
Redwood Glen, Sara and the staff look forward to lots of "play" -- fun,
fellowship, and faith -- all those things that make camp memorable and
life-transforming.

Help Redwood Glen for the "rest" of your
life
by Marshall
Coleman, Redwood Glen Associate Director
If you've ever stayed in one of Redwood Glen's
cabins, you have had the dubious pleasure of sleeping on one of our
mattresses. You probably have fond
memories of your experiences at camp. However, your memory may
shift as you remember waking up to a beautiful new day, wanting to jump
out of
bed, but feeling a little stiff because of the night's rest on the
three-inch foam mattress. There was no
jumping out of bed that beautiful morning.
We at Redwood Glen have asked a great deal of
our friends lately regarding our MacArthur Makeover (a
project that is still in
need of funds). We understand the principle of asking for too
much,
too soon, too often. With that in mind, we need to let you know
of a wonderful gift
that someone has given the camp.
A
friend of Redwood Glen who works for a mattress company has offered to
manufacture at a huge
discount, six-inch spring
mattresses for each lower bunk and five-inch foam
mattresses for each upper bunk in every cabin and lodge at Redwood
Glen. He will also personally deliver the 164 mattresses in
the company truck for FREE!
Even
though the mattresses are offered to us at a substantial discount, we
still
need to pay for them. To date, Redwood Glen has received $6,183
of the $14,890 needed to purchase 164 mattresses. To take
advantage of
the offer, we will need to have all money in hand by May 11,
2007. We
really and truly are in need of your help now.
If 97 more people covered the average cost of one $90 mattress, we
would meet our goal. Possibly your
Sunday school class, fellowship group, or whole church family could
purchase several
mattresses. Together we can meet our goal, helping a whole new
generation of
guests enjoy a great "rest" of their life.
Whatever
you can do to help us out will be genuinely and sincerely
appreciated. If you'd like to make a donation, please contact us
by phone at
(650)879-0320 or email.
Help Redwood Glen for the "rest" of
your life and someone else's, too.
