WELCOME

OUR VISION:
"To
Reflect Christ through Serving Others"
A WORD FROM OUR
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
On
June 3rd, I had the pleasure of attending a
celebration dinner for Rev. Karen Yee's 10th anniversary as
Associate Pastor at First Baptist Church of Alameda.
Karen
is one of 12 Redwood Glen board members
and has been a supporter of the camp for over 25 years.
In my remarks I noted that
Karen's history with
Redwood Glen is very long and rich. Karen accepted
Jesus as her Savior and Lord,
received her call into Christian
ministry, and discerned her call to minister at Alameda FBC all at
Redwood Glen.
Karen is a testimony of
the impact of the
ongoing ministry of Redwood Glen. At her 10 year
celebration dinner, many
people shared how Karen has touched their lives and encouraged
their faith in God.
Next summer, Redwood Glen
will celebrate a very special
anniversary as we hit our 50th year of summer camp
ministry.
During this coming year we
will be gathering
information, testimonies, pictures, etc. to put in a 50th anniversary
memory book that will be available next summer.
If you want to share your Redwood Glen story
and be a part of the memory book,
please contact Larry Jay at the camp office or at news@redwoodglen.com.
It has been so encouraging
to see so many
churches, families, and individuals send in support for both the
MacArthur
Makeover and new camp mattresses.
I am
so blessed by the generosity as we've hit our goal for MacArthur and
are 68% of
the way towards paying for the 164 new mattresses. Guests
have been giving very positive
feedback on the comfort and support. Thank you all.

Nordgaard,

Director

Work Day
at Redwood Glen

A BIG THANK YOU to all those who came out to our annual Work Day
at Redwood Glen on Saturday, June 2nd. With over 30 volunteers,
we were able to complete all of the planned projects which included:
raking 100 feet around all cabins, painting Smith bathrooms and Retreat
meeting room, sanding and painting the ping pong tables and railing at
Smith, along with clearing and remarking trails at Indian Point.
We had volunteers travel from Sacramento and San Jose, and all points
in between. Thanks to the hardworking servants who came from Alameda First Baptist, Sacramento First Baptist, San Jose Korean Presbyterian Church,
Santa Clara
First Baptist, Sunnyvale
Presbyterian Church, Vallejo
First Baptist, and West
Sacramento First Baptist.
While some came to serve simply because they were not busy, Kieun Yu brought his youth group
from San Jose for an intentionally missional purpose. Later this
month, the group will be heading to an Indian Reservation in Washington
for a summer mission project . According to Kieun, this service
project at Redwood Glen is "a good warm-up" for the types of projects
the team will be doing. (Kieun and his youth group are pictured
above.)
In 2008, we hope to use Redwood Glen's annual work day on the first
weekend of June as a service project/retreat for youth groups with work
and worship,
fellowship and fun. If you are interested in helping us plan this
inaugural event, please let us know.
A service project at Redwood Glen is a great missional opportunity for
youth groups as well as fellowship groups of all ages. If you are
interested in volunteering or being part of future Work Days at Redwood
Glen, email us at info@redwoodglen.com.

Staff
Spotlight: ROB WOLF
When the Jolly Ranchers begin to run out on the front counter of the
Redwood Glen office, guests regularly notice the abalone shell which
serves as our candy dish.
According to Rob Wolf, the 9
and 5/8 inch shell isn't quite "trophy size" (which is 10 inches), but
it is close. Rob who regularly dives personally harvested this
"near-trophy" shell from Point Arena, north of San Francisco.
While abalone shells have a natural shine which fades, Rob put a
coating on our Redwood Glen candy shell so that it would continue to
impress our guests.
Rob, who has been diving since 1989, has been on staff at Redwood Glen
since 1999, where he has served as our Maintenance Director, and now
serves as our Special Projects Manager. Rob, who describes his
personality as "a big
sledge hammer," is able to tackle new projects around camp and to make
things happen.
With skills in metal work, Rob was instrumental in building and
installing the new benches at each of our
campfire pits, amphitheatre, and the Chapel in the Woods, which is one
of his favorite
locations at camp. "It's a nice spot to talk to the Lord," he
says.
Rob came to Redwood Glen because he felt called by God to come.
For Rob, "to be used by God for His higher purpose" is the most
rewarding aspect of his job here. But it is not just Rob who has
used his God-given gifts at Redwood Glen. With the exception of
one of his sons, all other members of his family have worked here at
Redwood Glen through the years.
Originally from Spring Valley, Rob makes his home in La Honda with
his wife Kathy, who has been a
volunteer lifeguard at camp. They have 5 grown kids - Johnny (the only one who did not
work at camp), Joan (who is
married to Justin), Jason, Steve,
and Mark. And as Rob
notes, "no grandkids yet!" Along with diving, Rob also enjoys
spear fishing, hunting, clam digging, and long bike rides.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK
YOU. THANK YOU.
We just can't say it enough!
Spring has
been a challenging time for Redwood Glen. With the unexpected
need to renovate MacArthur cabin and replace all the mattresses in our
cabins and lodges, we have asked a lot of our camp supporters.
But thanks to the generous financial gifts of people like yourself, we
have reached our goal for the MacArthur Makeover and we are nearing our
goal for 164 new mattresses.
To date, $23,458 has been raised for MacArthur cabin, surpassing our
goal of $20,000!
Towards our
mattress fundraiser, $10,061 has already been raised, however $4,829 is still needed.
"Comfortable" is how Carolyn Neitzke, Redwood Glen Board Member and
Adventure Camp Director, recently described her first night on a new
mattress. If 54 more people were to make a $90 gift (the average
cost of one mattress), we would surpass our goal which would make the
Redwood Glen experience that much more comfortable for our guests.
Whatever
you, your
Sunday school class, fellowship group, or church can give would be appreciated. To make a
donation, contact us by phone at
(650)879-0320 or email.
To all who
have given and given again, "GRACIAS."
"MERCI." "GRAZIE." "DANKE." "SPASIBO." "DOH
JE." "SHIEH SHIEH." "GAHN-SAH-HAHM-NI-DA." THANK YOU.
(We really can't say it enough!)
