Dear friends of Redwood Glen,

It was with thankfulness to God for almost 11 years of ministry that I submitted my resignation to the Redwood Glen Board Executive Committee effective November 30, 2009.  The Rev. Joan Friesen, my wife and Director of Church Relations, and I will be moving to Indianapolis, Indiana where Joan has accepted the call to become the Executive Minister for American Baptist Churches of Greater Indianapolis.

Jay and Joan

Much has been accomplished over the last decade through the combined efforts of our staff and dedicated volunteers.  Little did I know when I became the Executive Director on January 1, 1999 that we would move from a denominationally-owned camp to one run independently by our Board of Directors.

As I walk around the grounds I see many physical improvements including renovation of Retreat Lodge, Sunshine cabin, Shepherd Lodge, MacArthur cabin, Siden common areas, the Amphitheatre, main campfire area, and the picnic/BBQ area among many, many other projects like repaving the road and parking areas, replacing the lining of the swimming pool, repainting Smith Hall and all the cabins/lodges, and phone/Internet upgrades

Most importantly, I am thankful for the countless lives that have been touched by Christ during the 51 years of Redwood Glen's ministry.  Many of you have been instrumental in increasing our summer camp offerings (Discovery Camp, Me and Mom/Dad Camp, Junior High Camp and most recently Senior High Camp)

We also have greatly increased the number of guest groups that use our grounds to provide retreats and summer camp experiences for hundreds of children, youth, and adults each year. I have heard numerous stories of how God has transformed lives through the ministry of Redwood Glen.  It is an incredible legacy of changed lives!

While Joan begins her new ministry I am looking forward to what God has in store for me in my next chapter.  I will greatly miss countless staff, area pastors, summer camp volunteer staff, and all the great volunteers who have made Redwood Glen the vibrant ministry that is it.  I can hardly put into words how much you all will be missed.

I am confident that God will guide the board to choose a new Executive Director who will take this ministry to its next level and chapter in our collective story of ministry to the people and churches in the greater Bay Area.

Joan and I look forward to returning some day to celebrate with you what God has done and will continue to do at Redwood Glen.  Surely God will continue to bless Redwood Glen as He has since my very first day almost 11 years ago.  I praise God for supplying all our needs each and every day.

Your partner in ministry,

Jay E. Nordgaard
Executive Director
Redwood Glen

Volunteer CAN YOU HELP?
During this time of transition, we are looking to strengthen our volunteer base.  We have created a skills and interest survey  to better utilize the talent of our supporters.  Whether one day a year or once a month; whether skilled or just "I wanna help," we encourage everyone to take 3 minutes and fill in our simple form. To take our VOLUNTEER SURVEY: Click here.
