WELCOME

OUR MISSION:
"To
Reflect Christ through Serving Others"
AND THE MINISTRY
OF CAMPING CONTINUES
As
the leaves begin to fall and autumn breezes blow their chill into
winter, we are reminded that as the calendar goes through its seasons
so do our lives.
While Redwood Glen celebrates with Jay and
Joan in their new ministry in Indiana, we are saddened by the loss of
their leadership and friendship, as we now prepare for the winds of
change that are beginning to blow.
A season of transition has begun - a season the camp has not
experienced since 1997 with the departure of Ron and Evelyn Dingee.
While we do not know the person the Redwood
Glen Board of Directors will select, we are thankful that our God
knows. And we are thankful that in the interim this same God will
hold us tight in an reassuring embrace of love.
During this season of change, there are 3 things that we ask of you,
our friends and supporters:
1. PRAY.
Pray for the staff, who will be led by our very skilled and capable
Associate Director, Marshall
Coleman.
Pray for the
Board as the search for a new Executive Director begins. (Click here for more information.)
And pray
about how you and your church may be able to support the camp through
the gifts of time, talents, and financial gifts.
2. VOLUNTEER.
Now more than ever we are asking willing hands and open hearts to
donate their time to serve at Redood Glen. Whether you are a
youth looking for a service project, or a retired business people with
a little extra time, or someone in between, please consider completing
our volunteer survey and letting us
know how you may be able to help the camp during this time of
transition. When we say we need you, we do mean that WE NEED YOU!
Please click here for more information on
volunteering.
3. GIVE THE GIFT
OF CAMP. As a Redwood Glen supporter, you know how camping
changes lives. (At the least you know how it has impacted
yours!)
Registration for our summer camps begins December 1st. With
Christmas coming, consider giving the gift of camp to a loved one with
special discounts for early registration.
Whether you give to a member of your family, church, or community,
camping is the best investment you can make - a gift of love with
eternal value.

Hello Friend of Redwood Glen
WELCOME
to the monthly online
newsletter of Redwood Glen, your local Bay Area Christian Camp and Conference Center.
This edition of Reflections features a final farewell from Jay Nordgaard, who completes his
tenure as Redwood Glen Executive Director this month. Though
saddened by his departure, we are thankful for the memories and for his
contributions to the camp during his near 11 years of service.
More information on the camp's Executive
Director search, which continues through December 18th, may be
found here.
The ministry of Redwood Glen, however, continues as 2010 Summer Camp dates are
announced, with registration beginning on December 1st. And in
case you missed Redwood Glen's
"Hollywood debut" - we provide a link to the trailer of the film.

A final
word from
JAY
NORDGAARD,
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
For the past 11 years I have been blessed to be
the Executive Director of Redwood Glen. It's hard to believe all
the changes since I
first moved in just after Christmas in 1998.
So many of our current camp counselors were just young elementary
children back then.
My how the times have changed.
The one thing that has not changed is the
message of Christ's love for us and how he can transform our
lives. How we communicate those truths have changed
at camp over the years but time and time again we see children, youth,
and
adults becoming Christ followers. There
is great rejoicing here when we hear the stories from camp.
Praise God!
I was just giving former ABCW Minister of
Camping Doug Siden (pictured above right with Jay ) a tour of the camp
during my final week here. I was pleased to be able to show Doug
all the
various projects and improvements we have been able to do because of
the
generosity of churches and families from all over the Bay Area.
It truly is amazing how much we've been able to
do while still keeping our fees down compared to so many other camps.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve as the
Executive Director. I have been blessed
by getting to know hundreds of people from all over the Bay Area.
My weekly church visits these past few years
has reminded me of just how important the camping program is to so many
churches. I trust that you will continue
in your partnership with the camp for years to come.
With the loss of the outdoor education program
we find ourselves with lots of time to make repairs and improvements,
but not
enough funds to purchase some materials.
I would ask that you would consider giving a "thank you" gift to
Redwood
Glen so that we might be able to take care of these needs well before
summer
camp.
Please pray for the camp during the transition. Pray
for those who will be responding to the
website job posting to serve at Redwood
Glen. Pray for the search
committee who will be discerning who the next Executive Director will
be. Pray for safety for the staff. Pray for more groups to
book
events at the
camp so we would enjoy increased revenue.
So it's good bye for now, but I look forward to
coming back for special anniversary celebrations in the years to
come. I know we will have many stories of how lives
were changed because of the ministry of Redwood Glen.

Two
thumbs up! Redwood Glen's motion
picture premiere
Though Redwood Glen does not "star" in Fortunes Mine, the camp is featured in this
action-adventure film about a group of campers who accidentally find a
lost mine near their camp while trying to find one of their
friends. Thanks to Andrea Thurber of Sunnyvale Presbyterian Church,
Redwood Glen was selected as the outdoor camp facility. Filmed at
the camp over 3 days this summer, this 30-minute movie is the final
project of the Starting Arts Summer Film Camp. Working with Dawnrunner Productions, the students in this 3-week program in
Santa Clara served as on-screen talent as well as the behind-the-camera
crew, which included set design. Screening of the film occurred
on October 17th and was met with wonderful acclaim. A short
trailer of the film can be seen here. (Contact the camp office if you
would like your own copy of Fortunes Mine.) In appreciation to the
camp, James Fox, who owns Dawnrunner Production
and has roots in Selma First Baptist church, is creating a promotional
video of our facilities which Redwood Glen will be able to use for
promotional purposes.
