WELCOME

OUR MISSION:
"To
Reflect Christ through Serving Others"
WHAT'S SO GOOD
ABOUT CAMPING?
It
was a sunny and warm registration day. I was about eight years old and full
of anticipation of my first summer camp experience.
Everything was wonderful - right up until dinner when they served liver.
A couple of nights into my week of camp, my fellow cabinmates and I had
a pillow fight, and our counselor made us do push-ups on our knuckles
for waking him up.
The only thing I could think about was:
"What's so good about camp?"
That was many many years ago, but my only memories of my first summer
camp experiences are liver and sore knuckles.
After reading about my memories, you might be asking the question:
"So what's so good about camp?"
At Redwood Glen, what's so good about camp is that our focus, our goal,
our very reason for existing is to bring Jesus Christ into the everyday
lives of the campers that come here.
In the thirty years that I have been in Christian camping, I have seen
some miraculous changes take place in campers' lives.
I would love to introduce you to countless children who have given
their lives to Jesus Christ at camp. I would love you to meet
campers who through their camp experiences, have entered into the
ministry or missionary work or simply centered their lives around their
relationship with God.
My own walk with God is a result of my experiences at camp during my
teenage years, which offered the platfrom for my accepting Christ into
my life and planted seeds for my life-long passion for Christian
camping.
So what's so good about camp? Camp provides a unique opportunity
to make a life-changing paradigm in the midst of God's beautiful
creation that is unlike any other experience. That is what's so
good about camp.

Hello Friend of Redwood Glen
WELCOME to the monthly e-newsletter of Redwood Glen, your local Bay
Area Christian Camp and Conference Center (www.redwoodglen.com).
What do Valentine's Day and Redwood Glen have in common?
A few things actually. You'll need to check out our articles
below to find out what!

WILL THE
REAL VALENTINE PLEASE STAND UP?
 While
Valentine's Day today is typically associated with chocolate and
flowers, the "real" Valentine celebration has more in common with
camping than you may expect.
The legend of St. Valentine, whose feast day is celebrated February
14th, dates to the fourth century, during the Roman Empire when it was
illegal to be a Christian. Valentine, a priest in Rome during the
reign of Claudius II, was caught marrying Christian couples and aiding
those who were being persecuted for their faith. He was
eventually arrested and imprisoned. It is believed that the
Emperor was impressed by this gracious man of God, until Valentine
began to convert Claudius by sharing the love of Christ with him.
He was then sentenced to death and martyred in 269 CE.
 Commitment to
Christ is what the "real" St. Valentine is about, and in so many ways,
he represents what camping is all about too.
While we won't say too much about the "marriage thing" (though some
have testified that they did first meet their future spouse at camp),
sharing Christ with others, strengthening young people in their faith,
and emboldening them to witness to others is what we strive for in our
camps at Redwood Glen. A commitment to Christ is the goal of
camp, or as Associate Director, Marshall Coleman says, it is what makes
camp so good. (See his article
left.)
Be a "real" Valentine this Valentine's Day and give the gift of camp to
a young person in your life. A week of camp is one of the best
ways to share the love of Christ with others. And unlike
chocolate and flowers, it is a gift that will last forever. (And
there are no extra calories!)

GIVE THE
GIFT OF "YOU"
Valentine's Day is about sharing the gift of love with others.
One of the best gifts of love that God has given to us is the gift of
ourselves. Consider giving the gift of "you" this year by
extending your reach and volunteering your services at Redwood Glen.

Our volunteer survey will not ask you to make a commitment to help
right now. We will collect the results and as needs arise, we
will contact those who have interests and gifts in certain areas and
check availability to assist. This survey allows us to know how
to call on the skills you have as we continue our ministry.
If after completing the survey, you find you have questions or if you
desire to see how you (or your church's fellowship group) can serve
immediately, contact Marshall Coleman, Associate Director, at (650)
879-0320 or via email at director@redwoodglen.com.
Consider giving the best gift of love God has given you by giving
yourself in service to Redwood Glen. Our online "no commitment"
survey may be accessed here.
