OUR
MISSION:
"To
Reflect Christ through Serving Others"
A WORD FROM OUR
ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR
As
our program camps have ended, we come to the time where we celebrate
what God has accomplished this summer, and say THANK YOU to our
wonderful crew of volunteers who made our camps this year a success.
To the directors, speakers, counselors, music teams, and volunteer
support staff - THANK YOU for giving up your personal time, taking a
week off from your work, even using vacation to live out your
Christianity in a tangible way among the campers this summer.
What a privilege it has been to work alongside you.
Walt Disney once said, "You can dream, create, design, and build the
most wonderful place in the world, but it requires people to make the
dream a reality."
In our case, it takes people to build and carry out our program camps
for those who want to come to this special place we call Redwood
Glen. The article to the right highlights some of the ways lives
were blessed this summer because of the service of our summer staff.
Every year, the lives of children and youth are transformed because of
our ministry as they hear about the love of God in Jesus Christ, some
for the first time. This year, included the three campers who
made first time decision at YMAD. I love being a camp director,
but the one thing that stresses me out is telling parents that we have
run out of scholarship money to help their child come to camp.
Jesus came for everyone, not just those who can afford to meet
him. At Redwood Glen, we are committed to using every resource
available to ensure that all who want to come to camp can come and meet
Jesus.
At our July 10th Open House, we were so thankful to those who
generously gave so that scholarship assistance will be available for
campers next year.
Would you consider making a pledge to Redwood Glen so that we can
provide a camp experience to more children and youth in 2011?
A little something is better than nothing. And a little can make
a BIG difference.
Consider this: If one person gives about $1 a day or about $30 per
month, in one year that would be $360, which would more than provide a
full campership for a needy child.
Consider what kind of ministry we could accomplish if 10 people, or 100
people gave $1 a day for the next year. Consider how many more
lives would be touched if we each gave a little, or even, a little more.
Think about it, then give me a call or drop me an email. Let's do
ministry together, and let me say in advance, Thank you.

A SUMMER
OF FUN, FELLOWSHIP, AND FAITH
 As the last
parent pulled in to camp to pick up his daughter from our Jr./Sr. High
Camp earlier this month, our program staff breathed a collective sigh
of relief, gratitude, and sadness as our 2010 summer camps drew to a
close.
It has been a summer with many last
minute decisions needing to be made
regarding the camps. However, third-time Summer Camp
Program Director, Brandon Benziger,
his Assistant (and wife), Stephanie,
along with staff and summer volunteers made the necessary adjustments
so that all went smoothly.
A big THANK YOU goes to all
the camp directors, counselors, and speakers, especially those who
stepped in to serve last minute. Redwood Glen is so blessed to
have a committed group of volunteers who are partners with us in
ministry.
"What Happens at Camp Doesn't Stay at Camp!" was this year's
theme. Each camp incorporated the theme into their programming by
encouraging the campers to share their faith. Under the
direction of Jeannette Calixto, Children's
Music And Drama camp (CMAD)
shared their love for the Lord through the musical
production, "Praise Rocks." In spite a smaller group this
year, campers had a great time and pulled off a quality show by week's
end that was, in Stephanie's perspective, "superb."
Not to be outdone, Youth Music And Drama camp ( YMAD) witnessed to their faith at
our annual Open House with their production of "Where Jesus is."
According to camp director, Jeff
Tessier, "We had an amazing group of talented kids come to camp,
who quickly formed to be a great choir and camp family. The 'bar' was
certainly raised this year with an amazing performance at the end of
camp."
In addition to the campers performance, YMAD also witnessed three youth
making first time commitments to Christ. The example of the
counselors was especially significant in providing a testimony to the
power of God at work. According to one YMADer, his counselor
became his hero and inspiration during the week.
 At Jr. Adventure Camp, veteran
counselor (and Redwood Glen Board President), Brad Bettencourt also provided an
example for his campers. He invited students from his school to
come to camp this year. The four who attended had a great time,
and according to Jr. Adventure camp director, Carolyn Neitzke, "Brad has his camp
pictures running on his work computer and the kids ask, and he is able
to share about camp even in a public school environment."
Matt Mitchell was
given the opportunity to share his faith and his love for camp when he
stepped up to serve as director of our Jr. High and Sr. High
Camps. Recruited last minute, Matt put together a week full of fun and
excitement in spite limited
time to prepare. Under God's
providence, five counselors were recruited
two days before camp started. Log jousting, the
Gak Zone, water balloon launching, and Japanese-style seating during
meals were established as new traditions. Rev. Larry Rice stepped up a week before camp
as speaker, and shared many stories and teachings which urged campers
to pursue godly lives as witnesses for Christ.
It was a summer of fun and fellowship as young people were challenged
in their faith. With campers having a good time, what happens at
camp will surely not stay at camp as campers return home, share their
experiences, and continue to live in the love of God and live out the
lessons they learned this summer while at Redwood Glen.

In
Memory of ROMONA MILLER
On July 11, 2010, former Redwood Glen Camp Manager, Romona Miller went to be with the
Lord, surrounded by her family and pastors in her final moments.
According to her daughter, Debbie,
"They had just finished praying and Dale (one of our pastors) asked
what song Mom would like. Denise led out in 'It is Well with My
Soul.' Then Mom breathed a couple of breaths and left us."
She passed peacefully after long months of illness.
A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, July 17th near the family home
in Colorado. A second Memorial
Service is being planned for
Saturday, August 7th at 1:30 pm
at First Baptist Church in Alameda.
In lieu of flowers or plants, the family has requested that
contributions in memory of Romona be sent to her favorite charities,
which include Redwood Glen.
Please send your gifts to the camp at 100 Wright Drive, Loma Mar, CA
94021.
Romona and her husband, Ray,
served Redwood Glen from 1987 to 1995 before retiring to Alameda, CA
and then moving to Centennial, Colorado where Ray currently lives.
