Dear Friends of Redwood Glen,
I’m sure you are aware of the ongoing water issues that have been plaguing us here at Redwood Glen. The issue is still here, still very real, and we need your help.
The County of San Mateo Parks Department, who has been supplying our water for over 20 years, is now wanting to cut us off. The State of California Water Board is telling the County that because they serve more than 25 permanent residents, they must move up to the next level of water treatment systems. This would require more reporting and water tests.
The County does not want to move to the next level which is why they want to turn off our water. While we install our private water system, we are asking the County to move up to the next level of water systems, until the camp becomes water independent. We would be willing to temporarily pay for the increased costs the County would incur. This would keep water flowing to Redwood Glen.
If our water supply is cut off, not only do we shut down the camp for 8-12 months, but our 20 person staff would be out of jobs and our 23 total residents of Redwood Glen, with children and one baby on the way, would become immediately homeless.
Would you write an email to the county persons involved with this decision and let them know that you are behind Redwood Glen in our endeavor to obtain potable drinking water for our guests and staff?
A sample letter follows, with names, emails, and snail mail addresses below.
Let us flood their email boxes and mail slots with support for Redwood Glen. Please forward this email to others and continue to keep the camp in your prayers. Thank you.
I am concerned about the plight of Redwood Glen. I understand that the San Mateo County Parks Department is about to shut off the water supply to our friends at Redwood Glen. This would be unacceptable. 20 employees would lose their jobs. 23 full-time residents, including young children, would immediately become homeless.
Redwood Glen has requested you to continue delivery of water and is willing to pay the increased costs that the County would incur by doing so. There is, therefore, no reason to deny this request.
Please reconsider your decision to stop delivery of water to Redwood Glen and continue to do so while the camp continues to work at becoming independent with its own water system.
